An Escape From Reality - Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Published by Sandy at 5:12 pm under Books, Learning, Writers

This last week seemed, to me, to be too full of a “series of unfortunate events”. By Friday, the last thing I needed was another news show or tabloid paper. I wanted to be taken away, out of the realm of current happenings. (I know, “reality shows” aren’t really, but even they weren’t fantastical enough.)
I found an old copy of one of the most fascinating fantasies ever - 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
The perfect “did it happen or didn’t it?” story. Time shifting, mystical and surreal, it took me to a different space, a different time. Critics have referred to García Márquez as a pioneer of “magical realism”.
His book is the history of a family presiding over a fictional Colombian town for 100 years. A definite adventure and a great book.

A great author, a great book. Just reading this post brought back immediately wonder I felt in reading Marquez lush and descriptive writing. A must read for any artist regardless of your domain.
